Richard Simmons Sweatin’ to the Oldies

Richard Simmons Sweatin’ to the Oldies
Richard Simmons is the king of motivational exercise, especially if you’re a beginner. This video workout is a dance party simulating a class reunion, with an energizing live band playing lively hits from the ’50s and ’60s, such as “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “Dancing in the Streets.” The singers and musicians sometimes come offstage and dance with the exercisers, adding to the energy and festivity. The choreography is very simple, low impact, light intensity, and appropriate for beginners and overweight exercisers. (You may not get your heart rate up if you’re very fit, although you’ll enjoy the music.) Richard doesn’t do much in the way of cueing–he assumes you’ll just follow along. His onscreen class has women and men of all body shapes and sizes, and everyone is having a blast. You will, too. At the end, the exercisers dance down the floor and the screen flashes how many pounds they’ve lost–several have lost more than 100 pounds. (22 minutes of aerobics, total 43 minutes with warm-up, cool down, and stretch.) –Joan Price

Customer Review: Let’s Party!!!
Excellent product. I had lost 52 pounds on the Sweatin to the Oldies program. The only this is they are great aerobics program; you might have to include sit ups or push ups with the program. Even though I lost alot of weight I wasn’t very tight and tone. However Richard Simmons always delivers with a fun and effective weight loss program.

Customer Review: Fabulous!
Richard Simmon has won my heart with his infectious enthusiasm for fun exercise! When I put on “Sweatin’ to the Oldies”, I can’t help but sing and dance. It sure helps me get in my 10,000 steps a day!!

Made in Heaven

Made in Heaven
In Made in Heaven, Timothy Hutton plays a young guy in 1946 who’s just been dumped by his girl and decides to go to California. On his way, he rescues a family from a car that’s driven into a lake–and drowns in the process. Of course, he finds himself in Heaven, and there he meets Kelly McGillis, a soul who’s never been born on Earth. The two fall in love. Just as they’re about to get married–just for the fun of it, since by the rules of Heaven they’re already married–McGillis gets sent to Earth to be born. Hutton pleads with Emmett, a figure who may or may not be God, who finally agrees to give Hutton 30 years on Earth to find her and continue their love. This 1987 Alan Rudolph film teeters on the edge of absolute cheesiness and steps over that edge at moments, but mostly it miraculously maintains a delicate, sweet, and affecting tone. McGillis is good, but Hutton is superb, demonstrating an honest charisma that makes him engaging even when he’s being a jerk. The depiction of Heaven avoids the patronizing, overdone joyfulness that too many movies fall into. Though the idea sounds like pure saccharine, Made in Heaven consistently sidesteps the obvious and comes up with something genuine. Rudolph is a prolific but erratic director (his stronger movies include Choose Me, Trouble in Mind, The Moderns, and Afterglow), but this is one of the ones worth seeing. Made in Heaven features Debra Winger and an uncredited Ellen Barkin, as well as cameos by rock stars Neil Young, Ric Ocasek, and Tom Petty. –Bret Fetzer

Customer Review: Absolutely awe inspiring movie.
Saw this when I was very young, maybe 9 or 10, and it somehow moved me in a visceral way that I simply cannot convey in words. But I never found out what it was called. With the memory of the powerful ending vaguely imprinted on my mind I vowed that I would one day find out the name of this movie. I have been clutching at straws for years trying to figure it out. Only recently did I find out, I’m now 25!

I have used the the Warner Brothers comment system on their website to try push for a DVD release. It MUST happen. AMAZON, if you can hear me, please do ALL you can.

DVD NEEDED! DVD NEEDED! DVD NEEDED! DVD NEEDED!

Customer Review: Need this on DVD
I can’t beleive this hasn’t comeout on DVD. It’s a classic and one that I would love to watch, but with new technology and no VCR, I can’t. Classic, romantic, and touching film! A must see. Timeless

Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Soccer Ball
No matter what your favorite sport or game is, there is a Orbee to match it! Varying sizes give doggy athletes of any breed a chance to play a sport. The Orbee-tuff compound is really tough with an interesting “feel” that is difficult to describe. Orbee toys are made of an injection molded “thermo plastic elastimer”. The molding process makes them hollow with holes at the ends and gives them a 1/2 inch thick membrane-like surface. This process creates an incredibly durable and safe material that stands up to sharp teeth and rough play. It’s flexible, durable, grippy, bouncy and buoyant, has a peppermint scent and rinses clean. Being hollow, Orbee toys can be stuffed with treats, peanut butter or whatever your dog has a love for. To add an additional option to the mix, all of these toys can be safely chilled or frozen for a cool treat on a hot day! Orbee toys are also non-toxic & recyclable, which makes them great for the environment too!

Customer Review: Dog’s Orbee Tuff Soccer Ball
Our 1 year-old Golden Retriever LOVES this soccer ball. It’s smaller than a regulation sized ball and easy for her to play with. Also easy to keep clean!
Customer Review: 3 out of 4 Paws
First Impression: Well the people over at Planet Dog heard about my website and decided I should test some of their toys. Puppy `o puppy am I glad they did! I saw this on their website about two months ago and I’ve been wanting to try it ever since. Dad says that the Orbee toys are made of an injection molded “thermo plastic elastomer.” Whatever… Basically the ball is strong, hollow, and has holes at both ends. This toy has a hole about 1 inch in diameter at one end, so you could put some dog treats inside, the other hole is much smaller about 3/8 of an inch. They are very flexible - I can easily crush the ball, but it just pops back out to it’s normal shape. All of the Orbee toys they sent me have a strong peppermint smell. I personally really like it; I was licking the ball at first… Of course they are bouncy, and apparently they also float! Dad also mentioned that when it’s hot during the summer we can freeze them to help keep me cool.. Conclusion: I’ve managed to pull a small piece loose near the large opening on the ball. The white part of the soccer ball is peeling away from the interior layer. I don’t think it’s going to be a huge problem, but I’ll keep everyone posted if I manage to destroy it! Followup: I managed to tear the loose piece off and swallow it before Dad could stop me. It was close though… I’ve also managed to get some more loose. Dad is debating about gluing that part down, or possibly cutting it back. I’ll update you if I can keep tearing pieces off!

Customer Review: Very pleased
I have never used this kind or gadget before. It is right on the price and very easy to use. Reading Consumer reviews, it is important to have a cover and this one does.Besides, the USB connector is retractable, so I guess it adds a second layer of protection.

It’s extremely small and portable. I had to change the hard drive of my computer so I needed a lot of memory to store all of my data and didn’t wanted to spend too much for an external drive (I don’t think I would use that too often and it takes a lot more space). It’s large capacity allowed me to do this at a much lower price, plus the convenience of being so small.

When I transferred my data back into my new hard drive all the files I’ve checked so far were not corrupted.

I cannot compare this one to other flash drives for this is my first one, but I’m really satisfied. The price was the lowest I could find for this capacity, the size was the smallest and the capacity was really very high.

It took about 30 minutes to copy almost 8 GB, but as I said, I cannot compare with other flash drives, so I cannot say if this is slow or not.

Customer Review: Good enough.
This is the second cruzr micro I’ve bought. The transfer speeds are reasonable, and once you’ve removed the U3 software, it works exactly as you would expect a USB drive to. I like the retractable connector, as I could never keep up with the caps of previous thumb drives I’ve owned.

Customer Review: good intro to paper scale modeling
I am an avid fan of paper airplane models. I especially like making scale models of real aircraft. After having made all sorts I found this book really nice because of the little history on each plane that the book gives. Though it would have been really good if the models were 3-D and if the plans for the models were pre-cut or perforated on the margins. The models take you through the early years of flight to the modern era and there are ample copies of each in case you foul up on one. All-in-all I think this is a great book for paper airplane fans like me and kids as well. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about purchasing it.

Franzus Penguin-aire Mini Portable Fan Model PS-283PF - 1 ea
Price: $10.99
Customer Review: Blahhhh
Noisy, noisy, noisy! The fan part is a cut out piece of felt that isn’t very effective either. NOT a good product even at that low price. Don’t bother buying!
Customer Review: Exactly what I wanted
This little fan did exactly what I wanted - a small, purse size fan that provided enough cooling air when I traveled and had to be in places without air conditioning. It’s a great size for the purse and seems pretty sturdy too (I’ve had others that worked one or two times and quit). The “blades” are harmless too. Like all the little fans, it would be a bit noisy for church or theater, but for what I needed it was great.

Customer Review: Too Short Shorts
These shorts are fine for exercising and running, except that I expected them to be a little longer so they would hide my skinny upper legs - they didn’t. A nice feature of these shorts are the pockets.

Customer Review: Good work out shorts
Not much to say really. These are very good work out shorts. I wear them to the gym on a regular basis and they are comfortable and functional. The pockets are nice.

The Chess Box
Best known for his work as a songwriter, producer, and talent scout, singer-bassist Willie Dixon essentially built Chicago’s Cobra and Chess labels with his sweat. Although this double-disc set does include five performances by the man from Vicksburg, Mississippi, himself, it’s really a testament to his songwriting prowess, packed with recordings that made his tunes classics of blues and early rock & roll. There’s Howlin’ Wolf tearing through “Spoonful,” “Little Red Rooster,” “Evil,” and “Back Door Man.” There’s Muddy Waters belting “You Shook Me,” “Hoochie Coochie Man,” and “I’m Ready.” There’s Bo Diddley delivering “You Can’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” and Koko Taylor launching her career with “Wang Dang Doodle.” The set features excellent liner notes, and its only disappointment is that its label-centricity excludes Dixon’s work for Cobra with then-youngsters Otis Rush and Buddy Guy. –Ted Drozdowski

Customer Review: Original recordings of Willie Dixon’s songs
Like many blues musicians, Willie Dixon had an interesting background. He was born, and spent his childhood, here in Vicksburg. He never had formal music education, but a local carpenter taught him harmony singing. Dixon sang bass in a local gospel quartet. Along the way, he served a couple stretches on Mississippi prison farms. He started his career as a heavyweight boxer in Chicago, but switched to music and played bass, part of the time as a house musician. Dixon started out as a studio bass player with Chess Records when it was a fledgling company started by the Chess brothers. The present set includes 36 songs written by Dixon, and performed by a variety of artists in addition to Dixon including Muddy Waters (Hoochie Coochie Man, etc.), Howlin Wolf (I Ain’t Superstitious, etc.), Bo Diddley (Pretty Thing, and You Can’t Tell a Book by its Cover), Koko Taylor (Wang Dang Doodle) and many others. The boxed set is a must addition for your collection if you have a serious interest in blues. It also makes a good gift. I would note that the Vicksburg Blues Society and others served as co-sponsors of the Willie Dixon Wang Dang Doodle Blues Festival held in Vicksburg in 2006. The City of Vicksburg has added a Willie Dixon mural to the murals on the Mississippi River floodwall near Catfish Row (the southern end of The Delta). The mursl, featuring the legendary Blue Room in the background, was painted by the noted mural artist Robert Dafford under the sponsorship of local blues patrons Ray and Nancy Neilsen.
Customer Review: A lesson in blues music
This set was my introduction to the *real* blues, and to not only Willie Dixon, but Muddy Waters and others featured in the set. For newcomers to the genre, it includes a wide array of rythms and styles in the blues category, showing its depth and richness. Lots of danceable selections, but more importantly, ALL genuine blues. Highly recommended!

Xantrex Technologies XPower Plus 400-Watt Inverter #851-0400
STATPOWER 300 WATT

Customer Review: Does the job
Have used the inverter on a couple 2-hour trips. Ran a Dell laptop and video game chargers off it the whole time with no problems. Only possible issue is a whine introduced into the car stereo (aux input) from a laptop running off the inverter. In other words, I was running the laptop off the inverter and plugged the laptop’s headphone output into the car stereo’s auxiliary input and there was a noticeable whine coming out of the speakers. It didn’t affect the operation of the stereo, laptop or inverter, and the inverter still works fine. The only other note is that running the inverter with the car engine off causes the inverter fan to run at full speed, which is rather loud. The inverter fan does not normally come on when the car engine is running.

Customer Review: Best value most power
For under $30, you can’t beat this little unit for powering laptops, small DVD players, and children’s games. They could have put the power outlets further apart. That’s our only gripe. Great little unit. Well made.

Customer Review: Smaller than I imagined and a small defect
The fountain was less impressive in person. I imagined it would be taller, and question if it’s really 15″, it seems a bit less. It has been working fine except one part of the tube has come loose and it’s slightly difficult to fix. Otherwise, I’d recommend if it you want a small fountain. It’s very quiet, maybe TOO quiet. :)

Customer Review: Broke in half after one drop
One of my kids dropped it one time and the thing broke in half. We were disappointed. The board is made up of multiple pieces of wood glued together, and I guess the glue was weak in one spot.
Customer Review: A Classic!
Chinese checkers, possibly as well liked as normal checkers, is a fun game that requires a good strategy. The goal of the game is to move your marbles into your opponent’s triangle. You can move your marbles one space at a time, unless your marbles are placed so that you can jump them. The marbles are pretty, and the board is just as lovely and mesmerizing. My only caution is to keep track of the marbles, because they are easy to lose! I would definately recommend this game. Even slightly younger children might learn to enjoy this game, as long as you keep the marbles away from their mouth!

10,000 B.C.

10,000 B.C.
To anyone who has ever yearned to see woolly mammoths in full stampede across the Alps, 10,000 BC can be heartily recommended. There’s also a flock of “terror birds”–lethal ostriches on steroids–in a steaming jungle only a splice away from the heroes’ snow-dusted alpine habitat. And lo, somewhere in the vastness of the North African desert lies a city whose slave inhabitants alternately teem like the crowds in Quo Vadis during the burning of Rome and trudge in hieratically menacing formations like the workers in Metropolis. That’s pretty much it for the cool stuff. Setting movies in prehistoric times is dicey. Apart from the “Dawn of Man” sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey, only Quest for Fire makes the grade, and its creators had the good sense to limit the dialogue to grunts and moans. 10,000 BC boasts a quasi-biblical narrator (Omar Sharif) and characters who speak in formed, albeit uninteresting, sentences–including a New Age-y “I understand your pain.” But let no one say the storytelling isn’t primitive. The narrator speaks of “the legend of the child with the blue eyes” and bingo, here’s the kid now. When, grown up to be Camilla Belle, she’s carried off by “four-legged demons”–guys on horseback to you–the neighbor boy (Steven Strait) who hankers to make myth with her leads a rescue mission into the great unknown world beyond their mountaintop. His name is D’Leh, which is Held, the German for “knight,” spelled backward. So yes, there is some hidden meaning after all.

10,000 BC is the latest triumph of the ersatz from writer-director Roland Emmerich. Like Stargate (1994), Independence Day (1996), and The Day After Tomorrow (2004) before it, it’s shamelessly cobbled together out of every movie Emmerich can remember to pilfer from (though to be fair, the section in pre-ancient Egypt harks back to his own Stargate). Emmerich’s saving grace is that his films’ cheesiness is so flagrant, his narratives so geared for instant gratification, he can seem like a kid simultaneously improvising and acting out a story in his backyard: “P’tend there’s this alien … p’tend maybe he came from Atlantis or something….” Just don’t p’tend it has anything to do with real moviemaking. –Richard T. Jameson

Customer Review: Ahead of Its Time
My lasting impression of `10,000 B.C`. is how good of a movie it really is. Not great, mind you, but I was impressed at the quality and the quantity of the action scenes. Never were there wooly mammoth sized pauses or unnecessary delays in the story or action. (Thanks to ‘Independence Day’ director Roland Emmerich and editor Alexander Berner.) Visually, the action is well framed and expertly shot. They may have taken liberties with history, but we’re not really supposed to care. Giant ostriches and saber tooth tigers? Well, I thought man wasn’t as well developed by then and animal evolution was far behind, but the movie isn’t pretentious; it’s an adventure meant to entertain. We even reach a well-developed civilization by then, far beyond cave man culture.

The plot is about as simple as the people who fill the screen. O’Leh (Steven Strait) is the Beowulf of cavemen times. He must rescue his woman, Evolet (Camilla Belle), and free his people while repairing the reputation of his allegedly cowardly father. (I guess chivalry didn’t start in medieval times after all.) His companions, like Tic’Tic (Cliff Curtis) provide more conflict and tension to the story. In the prehistoric fray are visions and visionaries (like Old Woman) who forecast the future and give advice. Most warriors rely on signs and wonders rather than on primitive compasses. Customs bind them all, and a handle on nature is the key to tribal success.

Compared to other cave men movies, this one is ahead by every frame. Wisely, we mostly get people talking in our own language without all the “Ugh’s” and grunts of past early man movies. I can’t emphasize enough how beautiful the scenes are shot as the tribe whizzes through snowy mountains, endless jungles, and vast deserts. As dangers come before them, the menace is close to the camera and harrowing to watch.

Don’t expect the film to be the next `Jurassic Park’ or as intense as ‘Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto (Widescreen Edition)’ or ‘300 (Full Screen Edition),’ but if you want a movie that gives you something to look at for nearly two hours and never lets up, ‘10,000 B.C.’ is essential viewing.

(Narrated with the stature of Omar Sharif of all people! For families this movie is rated PG-13 for the violence and not for any language or steamy love scenes.)

Customer Review: The Slaves’ Rebellion.
The film _10,000 B.C._ (2008) directed by Roland Emmerich is an excellent film set in prehistoric times with a unique and panoramic vision. I think the film is very likely influenced by the writings of fantasy action writer Robert E. Howard and certainly bears resemblance to the Conan films. The film takes place in prehistoric times when mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and giant birds roamed the landscape and men lived a simple hunter-gatherer type existence in the central Eurasian mountains (probably taking some liberty with actual historical fact of course). The film focuses on the Yagahl tribe who live in harmony with nature hunting mammoths. Two important characters from this tribe will serve as the central protagonists for the story - the young hunter D’Leh and the beautiful Evolet. In addition, the old mother, a shaman woman of the Yagahl tribe, plays a central role in the story. One day while hunting the mammoth, a group of warlords manage to kidnap Evolet and the young hunter must pursue them across the Levant in his effort to save her. However, after passing through many terrors, the hunter and his band of warriors encounter an evil civilization where they must work as slaves building great pyramids for “the Almighty”, a mysterious god-man who controls the slaves and for whom they must pay constant tribute. “The Almighty” demands that one of their own must be sacrificed to show the slaves that they must work harder for him. Ultimately, it is D’Leh who must lead the slaves in a rebellion against this evil man worshipped as a god and in an effort to rescue his love Evolet. Unfortunately, Evolet bears a mark upon her hand which shows her to be one of great power which “the Almighty” fears. In a fitting end, the noble D’Leh leads his people and the other slave peoples in a glorious revolt against the wicked masters. The masters show themselves to be cowards as they beg before their god “the Almighty”. However, D’Leh manages to throw a spear piercing “the Almighty” and thus killing him proving once and for all that he was no god but a mere mortal and evil man. Sic semper tyrannis! The slaves escape their masters, but first a last challenge must be faced by D’Leh and Evolet, and oddly the role of the old mother is to play an important part here. Thus, ends this film.

I found this film to be highly enjoyable and was particularly fond of the brilliant scenes. This film has been compared to Mel Gibson’s _Apocalypto_ (2006) and I believe that makes a good comparison. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and give it a good recommendation.

Took it to scout camp last week and was able to get enough coals for two 12″ ovens going in about 15 minutes. The coals up to the top of the side vent holes are ready in 10 minutes, the ones above the holes take a few minutes longer. Excellent value for the price.

Customer Review: Two observations…

1. The openings in the vertical grating at the bottom are too narrow to permit insertion of any butane grill lighter I have been able to buy. I have to lift up the canister in order to light the paper in the bottom.

2. After fiddling with newspaper trying to find right amount to use, I have found that using 1/2 of a paper grocery shopping bag (just cut it right up the middle with scissors) is perfect for lighting the chimney without fail.

Customer Review: A disappointment
FIFA 2005 is one of the worse FIFA games by EA sports. I love watching and playing soccer but this game isn’t right. They are very inconsistant with their FIFA games year after year. I have FIFA 2004 and that was fun. I was good with FIFA 2004, but like many reviewers say, it’s not easy to score on FIFA 2005. Good players don’t perform the way they should and there aren’t much spins to the ball. Players don’t that have, “flexibility” like they did with 2004. It’s a total disappointment. When it comes to EA games, I always and only love NHL series, even though I don’t play hockey. It’s a great game. If you’re good playing NHL 2001, you will be good with 2K2, 2K3 and so on. But this doesn’t apply to FIFA. You’re good with one year, you have to adapt to the playability to the next. Hope they’re better with 2K6. Did I mention you can’t swap players? That’s right, you can’t trade all on the good players on your team. The menu music is terrible too. They get a 2-star because the graphics and the character’s look are astonishing. Other than that, no more pros. Bottomline to FIFA 2005, don’t buy it unless you want to collect it.
Customer Review: BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD
This game is one of the worst soccer games i have ever seen. The animation is bad. The control is even worse. I just couldn’t believe my eye. Eventhough FIFA 04 isn’t a great game at all, it is still way better than this. Get winning 11, if you want a great soccer game. EA is making this franchise worse, and worse every single year. I still wonder how worse next years version will be. They are really killing this franchise.

Wishbone: Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Customer Review: Wishbone: Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Wishbone is a jack russell terrier who imagines himself as different characters in literature. In this story, he imagines himself as the schoolteacher Ichabod Crane. Each of the wishbone stories has two parts. In one part wishbone daydreams about being a character in literature, and in the other part his owner, Joe Talbot goes thru adventures of his own with his friends, and of course, Wishbone. This is another of my favorites. It defintely teaches kids about literature, and of course, having a cute little dog helps.
Customer Review: wishbone is the best show ever and forever!!!
wishbone is great why didn’t they keep the show on longer the shows in the 90’s treated kids like they were smarter but now it’s almost like the new kids shows are trying to make a whole new generation stupid because they dance and sing about people being “friends”

Bella

Customer Review: This movie will stay with you
‘Bella’ is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Very well written and tightly edited, it tenderly examines the lives of two wounded souls and proves that love can conquer even the most difficult circumstances. Very uplifting and very real, you will find yourself connecting to the characters and their stories. They will stay with you long after the closing credits roll. ‘Bella’ is a must own movie because you will want to watch it again and again.
Customer Review: Can’t wait to buy it!
I thought the acting was fantastic! Good story. Good characters. Good morals/values overall. The family scene at dinner was wonderful - very realistic, in my experience. In fact, the whole movie was realistic, along with being uplifting. I loved the positive way the family of the main character (Eduardo Verastegui) was portrayed. They weren’t “dysfunctional”. They actually liked each other and had fun together! As mentioned in another review, the movie is a bit shakey in the beginning, which I didn’t like, but not enough to rate the movie lower than 4.9 stars. Also, I initially thought the girl in the beginning of the movie was the same little girl as from the main character’s past - which didn’t make sense, of course - because both girls looked alike and had similar hairdo’s. But again, it’s forgivable. We took several of our children to see the movie (having seen it by myself first). Our 9 year old liked it, although I don’t know how much she understood. The 12 and 14 year olds definitely got it and liked it. I will let them watch it again. However - the main female character IS pregnant, out of wedlock, with no father of the baby in the picture - AND - they do show a scene with her going to an abortion clinic (nothing graphic) - which may bring up some touchy subjects, so be forewarned. If you aren’t ready to discuss it with your children, you may want to wait for them to see it. Looking forward to having it in my collection!

Customer Review: awesome for volleyball players
I bought these for my daughter, she playes volleyball for Long Beach State, in fact the entire team wears the Springbak Springsoles since I have recommended them to the trainers. I did not tell her I secretly put the Springbak’s in her Mizuno shoes. She had an awesome game, most blocks ever for her, and I noticed she was serving and spiking much harder. I told her about the Springbak’s after the match, she was amazed. She reported less shin splint problems and just less fatigues. She was getting 2to3 extra innches on her verticle jumps, which explaines all the blocks for her. We are extreemly happy with Springbak Springsoles and will recommend them to all our volleyball contacts across the nation.
Customer Review: Great for runners.
First thing I noticed were my shoes coming off the track surface much faster with the Springbak’s. You can feel the bounce immediately. They seem to increase my stride length as well as eliminate my shin splint problems which I have had for years. I am not sure about the increased vertical, but they give you much more balance and stability. Very happy with them, will definetly tell my team about the advantage I have gotten with Springbak Springsoles.
